Going for Gold - what happens next?

It has been suggested that the “Going for Gold” award should continue to be run, obviously with a different title, on a yearly basis.

The suggestion has come particularly from the point of view of a mobile, who is frequently running the same route. They state that the GfG has made a change from hearing “not required” all the time! I think that there is little doubt that it has kick-started activity when there was practically none and has kept it ticking over.

There are, of course, new awards set for next year and no doubt there will be a flurry of activity, which could tail off after all the regulars have worked each other and the usual mobiles have run their usual routes.

So, the main questions are, do we consider running a similar award again? If so, do we skip a year while the 50th Anniversary awards are running? There are no doubt others to be asked, so I’m not going to run this as a poll, you can go into free-flow with your answers!

Some may say that there are already enough awards within the WAB programme, but please remember – you do not have to go for them all!

Hi All
My own thoughts are that we should forget a similar award to the going for gold, for 2019, I feel that whilst it has been very effective in creating activity, standards have dropped, by this I mean many times I have called in on the net only to be greeted with 5/9 from quite a few of the regulars on the net, not even a how are you or hope all is well, but just a 5/9 and then pass you down the net,
I have commented on this on a number of occasions when on the net, I feel a little bit of respite from this would be good and get back to some form of sensibility .
Just my own thoughts on the subject.
