Nattering On The Net

Just a reminder to anyone that picks up Net Control, on Sunday the 16th of July there was a net running on 7.160 Terry GM0VWP/M was activating squares, unfortunately the Net Controller was not that experienced and kept going on about their antenna, and not leaving breaks to see if there was any check-ins or portable stations around, sadly a quite rare square was missed NN55 with a trig that had never been activated before plus a Sota Reference.
The portable station is quite new to WAB activating, and was not impressed with the quality of Net Control, I urge anyone that has a bash at doing net control, please leave breaks and listen for any mobiles or portable stations that may be trying to break in (do not be so quick on the PTT).
I have been told who the perpetrator was but will not name names.
Activators go out of their way to give us squares etc, so please leave a few seconds break before pushing the PTT..

Sorry Ken not wishing to offend or get into a slanging match with anyone can't fully comment on what happened that day as was not around,
Not sure who picked up net control but well done who ever it was you can't really criticise them for doing it and the more regular so called experienced controllers should really be ashamed of the attitude some have taken recently as always coming out with some very lame excuses for not picking up the nets on 40/80.

Nothing changes being old or new. Perhaps some body more experienced should have
Said something to him
Where the idea that Terry is a new WAB comes from I do not know as he is very active.

I would post this on the forum also, but I lost everything recently when I had problems
With the PC & I cannot be bothered to find my password again.

Now back to trying to retrive 22,000 photo's !!!

If push comes to shove I will do/and have done a stint as Net Controller but I suffer from three major issues ...

1. Either I am geographically challenged or suffer from a poor take off so I don't hear the weaker stations calling in. I appreciate others on the Net help out to obtain the caller's details but its very frustrating if this has to happen too often
2. I don't have the time to sit at the radio for hours on end and usually join a Net for an hour or so where there is already a Net Controller in full flow.
3. Probably the most important issue ... I face enough criticism in life without any more coming my way from disgruntled Radio Amateurs who would no more take up Net Control themselves than fly.

Some people seem to take up Net Control like a duck to water but for others it is a challenge. If they feel they will be criticised when they make a hash of it then the short answer is 'don't volunteer'. Well done to those who have a go and I believe the experienced Net Controllers should offer advice where necessary and defend the 'newbies' if they are criticised by others.

Maybe newbies should be offered the opportunity to take up Net Control for 30 minutes at a time with the guidance of an experienced Net Controller at hand Thirty minute slots may not be so daunting as being asked to take up Control for an open-ended length of time.

The person in question does not really do net control , but as has been said at least he had a bash, regarding the person new to WAB this is not Terry VWP, but someone else.
Cheers Ken G0FEX 8-)
