Clarification about Trig Points

Post by AndyG6OHM »

Hello everyone this is my first posting to the group.

I need some clarification on Trig Points.

As some trig points are churches or landmarks.

I heard something on the WAB net frequency saying that only the white Trig Points were to be used.

Living in the Fens of East Anglia we don't have many high spots !

This is a great shame as this stops disabled people being able to activate the trig points.

I was hoping to be able to have a go at this one as i am walking disabled.

Being able to drive to and activate a trig point like a church or landmark .

I await your replies with interest.

If you download the tracker from the WAB web site

http://www.worked-all-britain.org.uk

Look for Awards (Perpetual) > Trig Points Award > Trig Points Tracker (zip)

you will find that there are a few in close proximity to your home location.

But, of course, you can still join in by collecting the activations of others.

Pillar trig points are not necessarily only on very high spots. They were still needed in low lying areas in order to survey that locality.

Have had a very quick look and in the TF, TG, TL & TM large squares that cover East Anglia and the Fens, there are well over 300 pillar type trig points. Even in the hilly countryside of Leicestershire, there are 4 trig points very close to me that I can actually drive to within activation distance of.

We also limited it to the pillar type trig points for a couple of reasons. Firstly there was a ready made database that we were granted permission to use and secondly if we used every type of trig point the list would be unwieldy - there are over 6,000 on the list as it is!
