Ofcom

This looks like it could affect a lot of Hams & make things Worse

UK Ofcom Licensing Consultations 2014
Ofcom will be holding consultations next year on UK amateur radio licensing topics. These include:
Currently UK amateurs change their country prefix dependent on location e.g. MW0QQQ visits England and uses the callsign M0QQQ.
However, this is not how Ofcom interpret the current licence—they think MW0QQQ should still use MW0QQQ when in England. Discussions may include whether to use Ofcom’s interpretation, change the licence to follow long-standing practice, or use an additional prefix e.g. MW0QQQ uses M/MW0QQQ when visit-ing England.

Ofcom would prefer that a licensee only holds a single callsign (with the exception of club callsigns and NoVs). This would primarily affect licensees who currently have Foundation, Intermediate, and Full callsigns listed on the Ofcom database.

Finding a method of re-allocating a club callsign without needing a letter of authority from the existing holder.

I have signed up to OFCOM's discussion & view website. Hope they do consider our view's. On the M/MW0xxx question I can see there point of view however why change something that seems to work. I mean 'If it ain't broke then don't fix it' (a variation on that theme). Is the problem to to with spread sheets and data bases and computers like 'Mr Spock' can't cope with anything that's illogical?

Ofcom were at the RSGB convention and at their meeting they mentioned their thoughts about the region identifiers, the reaction they got from the audience give them a firm idea that people weren't happy!!
Got a feeling that won't change, the were mobbed after the lecture!!
The guy in charge is a licensed ham, so that should help!
