The Youth Hostels Amateur Radio Group (MX0YHA) will be on-air from the Barony of Skipton in Yorkshire between 10 and 30 June to commemorate the 800th Anniversary of the signing of the 1215 Magna Carta.

Skipton Castle was the 'seat' of William de Forz, one of the barons who signed the Magna Carta, but who later prevaricated over his support from King John.

YHARG member Kevin, M0XLT, will be using the group's 'events callsign' MX0YHA from Gargrave, located just outside Skipton, on the HF bands and 6m at various times over the three weeks.

A special commemorative QSL Certificate is available to all contacts.

More information can be found at www.YHARG.org.uk.

Pontefract & District ARS also put on a Magna Carta Station, GB 800 MC as one of the 25 barons who was present was John de Lacy from Pontefract.
Unfortunately a foundation course was being run over 3 of the 4 weekends, so operation was limited, though 1400+ QSOs and 94 DXCC worked. I tried the 40M WAB net frequency whenever I could, but conditions were poor. I think I only worked one WAB member. The good news is that we've got the same callsign again in October for 28 days, so conditions should be better. We also have GB4BOB in September for Battle of Britain 75th anniversary, GB4SL (Space lectures) for visit of Apollo 8 & 13 astronaut Jim Lovell to Pontefract (also in October) and hopefully GB2TFF (GB 2 The Final Frontier) when the British astronaut flies on the ISS. It's GB1AVR (Ackworth Vintage Rally this weekend (18-19th July).
All the best,
