Matters Arising
President & Contest Manager's Reports
- Everyone was up to date, so no reports to read.
Secretary, Rally Manager & Newsletter Editor's Reports
- The tablecloths are at long last on their way to LOGO King.
- Rallies are going ahead as planned, the A.G.M. (pending agreement) will be at the Spalding Rally. Attendance at the Lorne Rally will not happen this year.
- An appearance at the Dambusters Rally is being planned.
- We are invited to the 1st Sheffield Radio Hamfest on the 12th of July.
- The Newsletter is holding its own at the present. Because of so many changes to this current issue I am struggling to get it out on
time; however one way or another it MUST go out this week otherwise it will be too late for the A.G.M.
Treasurer's Report
- Attached the unaudited accounts for the WAB financial year ending March 31st 2008.
- The immediate thing that stands out is the loss of over £27,000 on the investment.
- This will no doubt be the major financial item of discussion at the meeting.
- The only comments that I would make are based on black & white figures:
- Despite the lower investment figure, the return on it has been higher
- In the 22 days since the end of the financial year, the capital has recovered by over £2500
- We are in a position to donate a further £5000, but I would suggest that we hold on until the business of the A.G.M. is sorted, by which time we should
have had a further dividend. We also have to bear in mind that subject to decisions we may be looking at a book re-print.
- Tom Holmes our Finacial Advisor has offered to attend the A.G.M.
Publicity Officer's Report
- John was asked to prepare a piece on Lighthouses for PW, Monitoring Monthly and anyone else who will print it. It was agreed that Spalding Rally
be used for the A.G.M. - venue needed to be publicised.
- John reported that he was talking to the USA: - ARRL and CQ magazine as well as others.
Internet Co-ordinator's Report
- A PayPal account for W.A.B. is being setup. Due to getting the 2 signatories to sign a paper form, this has not yet been finalised.
- A problem occurred with the W.A.B. web site - the forum and awards issued pages had stopped working. I emailed Chris Meadows at Intermip, & this was sorted between us.
Membership Secretary's Report
- Since the last committee meeting there have been 85 books sold made up as follows: - Books 24, CDs 9 and Book Numbers 52
- The Copyright Licence for our use of the Admiralty List of Lights was renewed in March for another twelve months.
Boundary Changes Co-ordinator's Report
- Response received from GI0OUM re article in Newsletter 130 about Boundary Changes. Reply sent via email.
Award Manager's Report
- Since the last meeting 153 awards have been issused, most of them following the Winter Activity period. Many of the Winter Activity Awards themselves were issued
to Bill & Debbie, who activated 5 separate 3 Counties Awards. Since the A.G.M. last year, well over 400 awards have been claimed.
- I would like to thank Judith for picking up the pieces when I was not too well.
A.G.M. 2008
- To be held at the Spalding Rally on 1st June, starting at 12.30pm.
Future Committee
- It was agreed that Norma Darby M3NJD be co-opted onto the committee.
The Way Forward
- It was agreed to reprint the Book Set but the Booklist will not be printed, but still be available on Disc and on the Web Site.
- It is proposed that we draw a line under everything and bring in 10k Squares
- The start date for this would be decided after Members input.
- A statement regarding the new awards was formulated as follows:
- W.A.B. Awards have to change as many new UAs will be formed on the 1st April 2009; the new boundaries are at present unknown. It will be a
long time before any new Maps become available. The committee has decided after Consultation with the membership to introduce a new simplified series
of W.A.B. Awards which will be based around the 10k Square
- There will be a vote at the AGM to decide the following:
- Whether to backdate the new award to the 1st May 1974, or
- Whether there should be a clean start for everyone starting on the 1st April 2009 (this is the preferred option)
- The current constitution does not allow for Postal or Proxy votes, but your views are saught in writing or e-mail to the Secretary by the 23rd May.
- A new Book print will be forwarded to all Committee for proof reading.
G8PUT Logging Program
- G8PUT requires people to use the logging program and inform him of any bugs.
The following Rallies were agreed upon

everyone and it was agreed that a new dividend signature was now needed.
Thanks were also given to Geoff & Norma for the work done on the new tablecloths.
