A.G.M. Snippets   Page Last Updated: 30 Oct 2009

Snippets of W.A.B. Annual General Meeting - 19 March 2006

Before the meeting formally began, the retiring president Geoff G7GJU addressed the meeting and informed the members of the amount that Norman G1NTW had left. This money had only come through days before the meeting, so it was not included in the accounts.

Everybody in attendance introduced themselves.

The minutes show those who attended, those who apologised. There were 21 members present - (interesting because Debbie Bowditch sold a lot of books on the stand whilst we were in the meeting, indicating that there may have been WABers there who didn't make it to the meeting).

  • Q) Ivor G4GET pointed out that the previous AGM minutes did not show who attended.
    A) Attendees had not been shown since 1979, because of the large numbers involved. As fewer attended now, this information has been included this year.

A Constitutional amendment was proposed to include the Website as well as the Newsletter as an official source of information.

  • Agreed by the meeting.

Secretary

  • Sue G0NLX apologised for not being able to attend the meeting and wished everyone a good day. She explained that as well as the £150,000, Norman had left equipment, which G2BOF had helped to clear and she thanked David for that.
  • She expressed concern about communication via the reflector and the fact that it was hard to document. She explained that she had been experiencing computer difficulties and thanked Judith for helping to forward information.
  • Geoff G4WUA proposed that Sue be removed from office.
Geoff G7GJU re-iterated that Sue had been experiencing computer problems and promised that the Committee would look into the matter.

Treasurer

  • Dave's report was given out. The legacy was not shown on the balance sheet, because it had not arrived in time to pay it in before the 'yearly' accounts were closed. The accounts are now on the reflector.
He explained what decisions had been made regarding the legacy and why.
There will be 4 trustees, Kevin G0AKH, Sue G0NLX, Dave G4IAR and Geoff G7GJU. If the cash had been invested last year, it would have given 10% capital growth and 5% interest.
There is a 2% management fee and no exit fee.
It is the Multi Manager Distribution Fund run by the Portfolio Service of F & C Fund Management Ltd.

Membership

  • Graham G4JZF said that books were down by 100 this year - a total of 193 had been issued.

Award Manager

  • Also down a bit, 167 issued. Judith G4IAQ gave a breakdown and highlighted G0JRT's WABEMA diamond, Ivan G3GKC's Millennium Diamond, his Ladder award for 5763 areas and Chris Gibbs for 5123.
  • Tony G0REP said he felt the Winter Awards were too complicated.
Judith said she'd look into it.

Contests

  • Brian G0BFJ expressed disappointment with the number of entries and the standard of the paperwork. He outlined the changes he had made (Contest duration to be 4 hours except the 50 MHz).
  • Bill G4WSB suggested that mobiles should have to operate from a minimum of 4/5 areas. Discussion followed.
  • Q) Alan G4NXG queried what would happen if a mobile crossed over into another Country during a contest - which callsign to use on the entry.
    A) Doesn't matter. The callsign used on the contest cover sheet will be the one used in the results table.
  • In order to encourage mobiles to activate more areas in during contests the multiplier rules had been modified to reflect this.
  • Q) Ivor G4GET was concerned about Contests only being held on a Sunday, because of his Church commitments.
    A) Brian explained that as most people don't work on Sunday, it was the most convenient day for the majority.

Rallies

  • Geoff G7GJU thanked those that man the stands. Said that extra help was always welcome.

Newsletters

  • A good year. Numbers up. Cover will be yellow, following feedback, as it's easier to read. Asked for stories/articles.

Boundary Changes

  • Mentioned the mini-panic byG4IAR/Q over the grid squares in Channel Islands. All is well!!

Internet

  • Taken over from Norman. Intermip giving free hosting, following a kind offer given to G4IAR/IAQ at a Rally. Graham G4JZF taken on book updates because of Kevin's shifts.
  • Sue G0NLX has a copy of passwords etc. just in case something untoward should happen to Kevin.
  • Bill G4WSB mentioned that copyright details have to be added to the website. No new lights to be added for a year (This is not a problem as it only refers to any not on the existing Admiralty List of Lights. This is not likely to occur).
Kevin G0AKH said this would be done.
  • Ivor G4GET said that the website was very well done.

Publicity

  • Read out by Geoff G7GJU, as John G8XTJ was not able to attend. Difficulty getting Contests into GB2RS. Asked for help accessing SM3CER calendar. Thanked Brian G0BFJ and other stalwarts for regular nets. Asked members to put in expedition photos/articles direct. Suggested a shared page with SOTA in RadCom. Thanked Rally staff and those who had given talks.
  • Bill WSB said nothing going into RadCom.
G7GJU Geoff explained the problem with lead times.
  • Geoff G4WUA asked if we would use Club Web Ring.
Geoff G4WUA will look into it.

S.W.L.

  • Chris Gibbs was unable to attend the meeting. Judith G4IAQ read a short report. 2 enquiries from SWL's, who had gone on to claim.

Committee Elections

  • All existing committee willing to stand.
Proposed Stan G0RYM, Seconded Tom G0JRT.
  • 1 new nomination - Tony Blackburn G0REP.
Proposed Brian G0BFJ, Seconded Dave G4IAR, Carried unanimously.

2006 President

  • Only one nomination, Brian G0BFJ.

Awards/Trophies

  • Presented

A.O.B.

  • Stan G0RYM thanked Net Controllers and mobiles.
  • Q) Bill G4WSB asked if we still sponsor Overseas members, saying many were quite wealthy.
    A) We don't although Geoff pointed out the difficulties of getting money out of some Countries.
  • Q) Is Brian G4KSQ OK?
    A) Yes.
  • W.A.B. Club Callsigns can be used by any member. Contact the licensees: for G4WAB contact G7GJU, for G7WAB contact G0AKH.
  • Kevin G0AKH hopes to bring out an interim XP version of WAB-IT soon.
  • Norman's callsign M3WAB may be obtained for W.A.B. (We have since felt it inappropriate as it was a personal callsign)
  • Members asked to continue to send correspondence to the Secretary, by post if necessary.

Brian G0BFJ the incoming president thanked all for attending - meeting closed at 13.47
