Isle of Man Activity Week
The Worked All Britain Awards Group (W.A.B.) held a joint event with the Isle of Man Amateur Radio Society (I.O.M.A.R.S.) &
The British Amateur Radio Lighthouse Society (B.A.R.L.S.) during the week 19th August - 26th August 2006.
This activity week was mutually arranged with the I.O.M.A.R.S. to encourage new Licensees to gain experience in portable, mobile and net activity.
We hope that it will provide publicity for the Island and increase activity around the bands and generally promote an interest within our hobby.
The Activity Week co-incided with the International Lighthouse Weekend (I.L.L.W.) and a visit by two of the W.A.B. Committee, Dave & Judith Brooks (G4IAR & G4IAQ), plus
Members of B.A.R.L.S.
The plan for the week was as follows: -
- All three lights on the Calf of Man will be activated on both days of I.L.L.W. - 19th/20th August - by members of W.A.B. and B.A.R.L.S.
- Chicken Rock will be activated (sea state permitting) on 19th August.
- All the major lighthouses on the island will be activated on the afternoon of 19th, by members of both W.A.B. & B.A.R.L.S.
- Callsigns of those taking part - GD0SGB/P, GW0VML/P/M (& XYL), GT4LAB/P & GD4LAB/M (G4IAR & G4IAQ in disguise).
- ALL 14 areas on the island will be activated during the week. Members of the I.O.M.A.R.S. will position themselves around the island.
- Two new certificates have been produced especially for the event. There will be a 'Basic' Activity Week Certificate stating how many areas have been worked and
a 'Premier Class' Certificate for all 14 I.O.M. areas.
We all hope that the event will prove to be a great success and encourage newcomers to come forward to join in the fun.
Please give all concerned your support by calling them.
This may well become an Annual Event.
