DVDs For Hire   Page Last Updated: 09 Nov 2008

(£2.50 a time) - Proceeds to RNLI

A very long time ago (well back in the 80's anyway), when he was extremely active in W.A.B., Steve G0SGB and friends went on two expeditions into the Scottish Isles to activate rare WAB areas.

The 1989 Shetland trip was called 'The W.A.B. Expedition to Out Skerries' and visited Bound Skerry Lighthouse and all the islands in the Out Skerries. This was where the Bound Skerry Lighthouse Award originated, conceived by John G4LTH. The trip was organised by Steve G0SGB, with Gareth G1DRG, Andy G4UXU, John G4LTH and Colin GM0AVR as team members. The DVD/VHS running time is 90 minutes.

The 1992 trip to Orkney was as a result of hearing Ivan G3GKC talking about HX61 being rarer than OV00. Steve's curiosity was aroused and the rest is history! The trip produced the largest nets ever on W.A.B. and as a result HX was removed from the top of the 'most wanted' list. The expedition was to the Orkney Lighthouses and all the Island Lighthouses & was again organised by Steve G0SGB with John G4LTH and Bill G4WSB as team members. The DVD/VHS running time is 120 minutes.

Steve (charming, well mannered, diplomatic and "All round nice guy") has now produced DVDs of the trips and has given one of each to W.A.B. for us to hire out to anyone interested, either from a personal point of view or for use with a Club Talk. He has given full control of costs etc. to the Committee. In the 2004/5 financial year we have donated £200 to St Dunstans ARS, and in 2005/6, £150 to St Dunstans ARS and £150 to RAIBC. This is to follow our obligation in our Constitution to support less fortunate Radio Amateurs. However, we are also very aware of our previous commitment to R.N.L.I. We receive regular updates from them on the lifeboat "John Morris", purchased as a result of W.A.B. fundraising and named after W.A.B.'s founder G3ABG, in his honour. It seems appropriate that any funds raised from the hire of these DVDs should go to them.

So... if you would like to view one, please contact:-

Dave and Judith Brooks - see Committee Page

We’ll be happy to pass one on. Hope you enjoy!
73/88, Judith G4IAQ
